Admission in Ph.D. Program
All scholars, including in-service ones, shall have to do a ‘Course Work’ which will be treated as a prerequisite for the M.Phil/Ph.D. programme for which they shall have to meet the minimum requirement of 75% attendance during the Course Work offered by the Department / Centre / Faculty concerned and will be required to complete the course work within the prescribed duration of one semester, as the case may be. However, such a scholar with an M.Phil. programme of at least three-semester duration, will be exempted from Course Work while pursuing Ph.D. programme, fulfilling conditions laid down in the Ordinance.

Objectives:
- To provide in-depth knowledge and understanding of Lifelong Learning and Extension to those who belong to other disciplines.
- To equip students with adequate knowledge and skill in research methods, techniques, and tools.
- To encourage and motivate them to take up researches in relevant areas of social importance.
Admission Information
Eligibility Conditions:
- Admission is open to those who have obtained a Master’s degree in any discipline from a recognized Indian University, and have a good academic record with a first or high second-class Master’s degree, or have an equivalent degree of a Foreign University in the subject concerned. (Note: High second class would mean at least 55% in the subject or equivalent grade).
- For admission to the Ph.D., the Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe candidates shall be given 5% relaxation in the minimum eligibility marks.
Admission Procedure:
- Admission to the Ph.D. Programme will be done on the basis of a written test of 75 Marks and an interview of 25 marks.
- The Ph.D. committee shall assign a supervisor to each candidate and constitute an Advisory Committee of 3 members including the supervisor of the candidate.
- The Department will follow University Norms and Guidelines for the implementation of the reservation policy, including the relaxation in basic eligibility criteria allowed for different categories of candidates.
- Reservations of Physically Challenged will be as per the university norms.
PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION
- The Ph.D. Programme shall consist of two parts:
Part-I (Course Work):
The Two Papers will be compulsory namely:
- Research Methodology
- Advance study on Lifelong Learning & Extension
The students will opt for one depth paper out of three depth papers available so far. However, the faculty might add more depth papers in the future.

- Provided that if a scholar fails to successfully complete the prescribed coursework within the given period, he/she may be given one more chance to successfully complete the said Course Work.
- If a scholar fails to successfully complete the prescribed coursework within the given period, only one more chance/commensurate semester shall be given for completion of the Course Work. Failure after this chance shall result in the automatic cancellation of registration.
Part-II (Registration to Ph.D):
- After successful completion of the Course Work, a scholar shall be required to prepare a research proposal in consultation with his/ her supervisor.
- The proposal shall include (i) Topic of research, (ii) Objectives, (iii) the Current state of the literature related to the specific topic, (iv) Methodology (v) References/ Bibliography and (vi) any other relevant information the researcher would like to submit in support of the proposed research. The scholar will submit the RAC recommended, research proposal to the concerned Department/Centre/Faculty for consideration/approval of DRC/CRC.
- The scholar will be formally registered to Ph.D. after his/her proposal has been approved by DRC/CRC and BoS/CoS.
DURATION:
- The duration of the Programme will be one and a half years. The dissertation can only be submitted after one year from the date of admission to the Ph.D. programme subject to qualifying Part–I examination by a candidate. However, a student must clear Part-I of the Ph.D. examination and submit a dissertation within one and a half years of the initial registration for a Ph.D. Programme.

Reservation:
- The number of students admitted in the M. Phil programme as indicated above, 15% of the seats would be reserved for SC, 7.5% for ST, and 27% for OBC students. There will be supernumerary seats reserved for disabled candidates as per the University Guidelines.
UGC Non-NET Fellowships:
- The UGC vide letter No. D.O. No. F. 19.33 (CU) dated 31.01.2007 had come out with a scheme to provide fellowships to those research scholars who have not cleared JRF/NET for the fellowship and hence are not in receipt of any fellowship from any source. Accordingly, admission to the Ph.D. programme under this UGC Non-NET Fellowships Category (also for those who are not in receipt of a fellowship from any source), shall be in strict accordance with the university norms.
ATTENDANCE
- The minimum percentage of lectures to be attended and seminars to be participated in by the students shall be determined by the Ph.D. Committee of the department. But in no case, minimum requirement to be prescribed in any department shall be less than 2/3 of the lectures delivered and seminars held separately.
